The 179km ride started in Oudenaarde at 0700 (CET) in freezing temperatures. The route heads across the Flanders region taking in a number of cobbled sectors to challenge the riders strength and bike handling skills. A total of 16,000 other cyclists took part in the event which is predominantly traffic free with rolling road blocks on local roads by the police at all the main road junctions. The route is used on the following day by the professional UCI road race.

The ride was completed in 6h 47m with two other members of Reading Cycling Club supporting Jon.
