Project: Greener Grid Park

Location: Lister Drive, Liverpool

Contamination: Asbestos impacted soils

Treatment facility: Maw Green and Rowley Regis

Customer savings: £115K

During the development of a former substation to connect StatKraft’s new greener grid park to the power transmission network, asbestos contamination of the soil halted construction. This grid park would enable an innovative emission free way to boost system stability.

A sampling visit was conducted by Provectus immediately after a call from the client, where composite sampling of the stockpile was undertaken to determine contamination levels and a waste assessment was undertaken to help the client to classify the waste.

Our team assisted with guidance and examples for completing hazardous waste consignment notes, aided provision of haulage, and facilitated waste reporting at a frequency requested by the client to support invoicing and compliance reporting. This ensured the client met all regulatory requirements and the project was implemently promptly and completely in a short timeframe to avoid the potential of additional costs from an extended construction programme.

ACM debris was removed from the soil at our soil treatment facilities. The recovered non-hazardous soil was then reused in our adjacent restoration scheme. Our disposal route offered the client a compliant and speedy outlet for their contaminated soils. The client was initially looking to move the soil to hazardous landfill before our site visit, leading to customer savings of £115K and a more sustainable disposal route.
